*Thump Thump*

1 Mar

A couple of weeks ago I was asked to make bunny cupcakes for a birthday party.  The birthday boy was turning 100 days old.  In Chinese tradition, when a baby turns 100 days old, it’s time for a celebration. This celebration represents the wish that the baby will live 100 years (if i’m wrong, I’m sorry!).  To celebrate, family and friends come together over a meal.

I was asked to make bunny cupcakes because the birthday boy’s chinese zodiac is a rabbit.  I was racking my brain as to how I was going to make these bunnies, but after a few bad attempts, I was able to find the perfect way! YAY!!

These cupcakes would be perfect for Easter too!!! I can’t wait to make more! 😀

A monkey-themed birthday

5 May

monkey rock and palm tree cupcakes

Last week I was busy baking monkey-themed cupcakes and cake for a birthday order. Rather than making all monkeys, I made 25 monkeys, 15 palm trees (with bananas), and 10 rock cupcakes. The palm trees and rocks made a nice background for all the smiling monkeys. As you can imagine, decorating these cupcakes took much longer than piping a normal “swirl” on a cupcake. One of the hardest things was to figure out how I was going to make palm trees — luckily I made extra because I broke a few while trying to assemble the tree trunk to the leaves! The rocks looked pretty plain at first so I added grass and flowers to them.

Here’s the chocolate monkey birthday cake. I hope everyone at the party enjoyed all the cupcakes and cake. 🙂

Our newest creations

21 Apr

Last night Kristie and I were selling cake pops and pecan bites at Bake for the Quake in Yaletown. We earned $367 from the bake sale and donated 100% of our proceeds to Japan’s earthquake and tsunami relief fund. Thank you all for your support! The turnout was absolutely amazing (not to mention the location was great). People stood in one lineup to get in and another lineup to buy tickets/tokens. You can imagine how packed it was in that tiny room. It was great meeting new and old friends (we met some from the previous Baker’s Markets in South Vancouver). Since this bake sale was for a special cause, we decided to make special cake pops related to Japan—sushi (maki rolls) and Sanrio characters. Just as we had expected, our Sanrio cake pops were the first to sell out. Everytime a child walked by, you can see their eyes light up as they point at the character they want hoping their mom would buy it for them.

Here are some photos of our newest creations!

Our First Feature on Cupcakes Take The Cake!

19 Aug

I was so shocked to see my animal pops on Cupcakes Take The Cake blog; I uploaded some photos on Flickr through the CTTC Flickr group and next thing I know, we had a blurb on their website!  I am so excited and happy!  I have always wanted my cupcakes to be featured on a blog and it’s a great way to spread the word about Something Sweet For You.

Check out the feature by clicking the image below.

Thank you CCTC!!!
